About Me

Hi, I'm Matt.

I'm a Japanese food blogger.

The food is Japanese.

I'm not. 😉

What's different about my Japanese food blog is the perspective.

Living in Japan for over 18 years has had a huge impact on my life and the way I eat.

It's funny to remember when I first moved to Japan.

I used to drink those giant cans of Coca-cola they sold in vending machines in the countryside. I bought pre-made spaghetti sauce at Beisei and ordered entire pizzas from Pizza-La just to eat by myself.

Fortunately, living in Japan has changed that.

Now, at 41, I'm in better shape than when I was 21.

I lost 20 lbs thanks to my younger Japanese girlfriend at the time pointing out that our age difference was a little too obvious.

Later, she said the real reason she mentioned something is because she said I smelled bad.

According to her, once I changed my diet, the smell went away.

I just smelled my arm now.

Smells pretty good to me. lol!

Back in 2015, I helped my roommate open up his French salad bar restaurant.

Initially, I started this blog with the intention to help promote the restaurant.

Then, I just remembered now, my second post was about my favorite bakeries around Omotesando. haha!

Over time, my diet became healthier.

Eating out on a low carb diet in rice-loving Japan wasn't easy.

I started cooking at home more and more.

And that's the short story of how 'eyes and hour' was born!
